Clockjack, London

3.06.2015

Move over Nando's, there's a new kid in the block kicking your chicken punch. Not so new, Clockjack is a rotisserie restaurant nestled in the bustling heart of Piccadicly. They have recently undergone some changes in management and menu and with the only vertical rostisserie in Europe, it's all about free range chicken at Clockjack.

#ZomatoMeetup

I was invited by Zomato as part of #ZomatoMeetup, a bloggers event and the venue was Clockjack. A night meeting other like-minded food bloggers and chatting away about food and social media. Clockjack pride itself for the quality and source only ethnically free range birds from France. Gary, the manager was on hand all night explaining about the restaurant and the food. You can see the passion the restaurant has for its chicken licking experience.

Menu

Hummus, Baba Ghanoush and Toasted Pitta Bread

Buttermilk Chicken Bites with Barbecue and Ranch Sauce

Clockjack Wings - chilli and barbecue

The night started off with toasted pitta bread and dippings of baba ghanoush and hummus. Hummus was very smooth and baba ghanoush was tasty but do save room for the chicken. Then came the chicken bites, marinated for 24 hours in buttermilk and breaded in flour, cornflour, paprika, garlic and onion powder before frying. Very moreish especially with the dips. The chicken wings was a let down, it was bland and the meat was quite dried. Secretly, my chicken wings standard has now set to wings from Smoking Goat (I know it is entirely different flavour, but it is ridiculously good).

Whole Rotisserie Chicken

Double Cooked Fries, Clockjack Coleslaw, Jim Beam Sweetcorn and Southern Style Beans

The lady bird of the night finally appeared along with many sides. This is no ordinary bird, specifically sourcing the chicken from France and marinating the chickens in soft herby brine before roasting. The result is succulent juicy tender meat packed with subtle flavour. The sides was equally good, fries are crispy and fennel is added to the slaw for an extra dimension. Gravy was also served with the chicken, but it was on the light side for me and if I remembered correctly, it takes 2 days to make the gravy.

Vanilla Cheesecake, Chocolate Ganache Tart, Pecan and Maple Syrup Pie

By the end of the night, my stomach was fulled. Nevertheless, one must make a tiny room for desserts. A platter of classics American style desserts; vanilla cheesecake, chocolate ganache tart, pecan and maple syrup pie. 3 words: bold, rich and heavy.

Local Craft Beers - Camden Hells, Frontier

Local Craft Beers - Meantime, Pistonhead, Viru

We were introduced to local craft beers throughout the night, mostly from around London. Normally I'm not a beer drinker, Fullers Frontier lager was the most likeable to my taste bud, easy to drink and very refreshing. Meantime is probably the most famous out of the one we tried, seen served in many pub on tap. The others are all equally good with some tasting more heavier.

This is not your average chicken rostisserie, you can see the care and quality they put into the chicken. For simple delicious American style comfort food, look no further than Clockjack and it is definitely good value for money considering its busy location.
